Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam says Israel carries out large numbers of strikes and related operations against Lebanon during the period of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire. Salam tells reporters, citing figures he provides, that from April 17 through June 7, 2026, Israel conducts 3,491 air strikes, along with 407 “controlled demolitions,” and six “razing” or demolition operations, according to NDTV and Egypt Independent, which reports the figures via Lebanon’s state news agency (NNA). Al-Monitor, also citing Reuters, describes the total as “nearly 3,500” air strikes and hundreds of controlled explosions during the ceasefire window.
The ceasefire announced by the United States comes into effect shortly after midnight on April 17, following announcement on April 16. Sources also note that Israeli troops remain positioned deep inside southern Lebanon. While the ceasefire largely stops air strikes on Beirut and nearby suburbs, fighting continues in southern Lebanon between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah, according to Al-Monitor.
