A senior Hezbollah official says the group has had no direct contact with US President Donald Trump, contradicting remarks attributed to Trump about contact with Hezbollah. Speaking to AFP, Mahmud Qomati stated that “there has been no direct contact between President Trump and Hezbollah officials.” He added that Hezbollah has never previously spoken directly with Trump.
The dispute centers on Trump’s comments during recent efforts to end the conflict in Lebanon. Trump told reporters that the United States had spoken with Hezbollah for the first time, describing the communication as part of attempts to halt the war. He also said that, through “highly placed representatives,” he had a “very good call with Hezbollah,” after Israel threatened renewed strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs.
Qomati suggested Trump may have been referring instead to indirect channels involving Lebanon’s political figures. He pointed to parliament speaker Nabih Berri’s adviser, who communicates with the US ambassador and passes along messages, implying that any US–Hezbollah communication occurred through intermediaries rather than direct contact with Trump or Hezbollah officials.
