Apple says its redesigned “Siri AI” assistant will not be available on iPhone and iPad in the European Union when iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 launch later this year. In announcements and reporting, Apple attributes the delay to the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), saying regulators are not accepting its proposals for how to meet interoperability requirements while preserving user privacy and security. Apple also says it is “deeply disappointed” and that it does not currently have a timeline for EU availability of Siri AI on mobile devices.

European officials dispute Apple’s framing. The European Commission says the decision not to roll out Siri AI is made by Apple, not required by the DMA, and that Apple sought an exemption from interoperability obligations rather than a compliant approach. Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier says Apple did not develop solutions that meet EU privacy and security standards and that an exemption is not available under EU rules.

Across the coverage, Apple maintains it will continue engaging with regulators and may bring Siri AI later. Other platforms are not part of the same restriction, with Siri AI expected to be available in the EU on macOS, Apple Vision Pro (visionOS), and Apple Watch (watchOS).
