Apple previewes new child safety features coming later this year with updates to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS (listed as “Golden Gate”/“27” by outlets). The update expands existing parental controls with tools for app access, web browsing, communication limits, and device time management. Parents get a simpler setup experience with recommended apps and can choose which apps a child can access using options such as a few essential apps, a curated set, or age-appropriate selections that can change over time. App approval continues to work through Ask to Buy. A new “Ask to Browse” option for Safari adds the ability for parents to approve each new website a child visits when enabled.

Apple also updates Communication Safety by default for users under 18, including blurring gore and violence in Messages and FaceTime, alongside similar automatic blurring behavior for nudity. For time management, Time Allowances lets parents set limits for app categories such as Entertainment, Games, and Social Media, using age-based limits suggested with expert guidance. Daily Schedules control which apps are accessible and when, based on time of day and day of the week. Screen Time is redesigned to provide an at-a-glance view and quicker in-the-moment adjustments. Apple provides a dedicated Child Safety webpage with details.
