Apple has released the tvOS 27 update in beta, and it does not run on all previously supported Apple TV models. According to Apple’s documentation as summarized by multiple outlets, tvOS 27 is compatible with Apple TV 4K (2nd generation, 2021) and newer models, but it is not compatible with the Apple TV HD (2015) and the Apple TV 4K (1st generation, 2017). The change means owners of those two older devices cannot upgrade to tvOS 27.
The update includes user-facing improvements that Apple previewed as part of the tvOS 27 release cycle, including a redesigned Podcasts app, smoother app launches and animations, and support for larger text across the interface.
