Instagram is rolling out a long-requested feature that lets users manually rearrange the posts on their profile grid. Reports from multiple outlets say the change becomes widely available starting June 8 through the Instagram mobile apps for iPhone and Android, after earlier testing with some users in test groups. Instagram had previously announced the capability, roughly a year before this broad release.
Until the update, Instagram profiles largely follow reverse-chronological order, with the main exception being the ability to pin up to three posts at the top. With “Reorder grid,” users can move posts to different positions without deleting them or changing the original upload dates. The feature is accessed by long-pressing a post on the profile grid, selecting the “Reorder grid” option from the menu, and then dragging content into the desired order. Changes are saved immediately and are visible to other visitors. Pinned posts continue to remain at the top regardless of how the rest of the grid is reordered.
Some coverage also notes that Instagram is testing or rolling out additional elements alongside this customization, but the central update is the grid reordering tool itself.
