Instagram is rolling out a feature that lets users rearrange the posts shown on their profile grid. After being tested with some users, Instagram says the option is now broadly available as of June 8 through the Instagram mobile apps for iPhone and Android. The update arrives nearly a year after Instagram first announced the change.

With the new tool, users can initiate reordering from their profile by long-pressing a post, selecting an option to reorder the grid, and then dragging posts to new positions. The app saves changes immediately, and the updated grid is visible to other visitors to the profile.

Prior to this update, Instagram displayed posts in strict reverse-chronological order, with an exception that allowed users to pin up to three posts at the top. The reordering feature lifts those limits by allowing posts from any time to be positioned anywhere on the grid. Pinned posts still remain at the top, regardless of how other posts are rearranged.
