A Hong Kong court sentences a 55-year-old construction worker, Raymond Wong Chan-fai, to 10 months in prison for throwing leaflets with alleged seditious messages from his flat. According to court reports, Wong pleads guilty to two counts of committing seditious acts at West Kowloon Magistrates’ Court. The case centres on dozens of sheets of paper he allegedly threw out of his window from his residence in 2024 and in the following year.

In mitigation at the sentencing hearing, Wong tells Chief Magistrate Victor So Wai-tak that he had written the messages himself and that the content was offensive and targeted police, judges and mainland Chinese residents. Wong also says he threw the papers out of his window to “let off steam.” The court ultimately imposes the 10-month jail term after the guilty plea.
