Apple has released updated beta firmware for several AirPods models to coincide with upcoming AirPods features planned for iOS 27. According to multiple outlets, the firmware is provided to developers and is tied to the current iOS 27 developer beta timeline. MacRumors reports that the update applies to AirPods 4, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Pro 3, with a build number listed as 9A5292e.
The outlets also describe what Apple says these AirPods features will include in iOS 27: a new AirPods interface, support for custom EQ, and compatibility with Apple’s updated Siri AI. The reports place these items within Apple’s broader OS updates, including iPadOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate.
Apple also previously introduced a beta firmware installation option in AirPods settings when AirPods are connected to an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. That option enables developers to turn on beta downloads for participating devices. The firmware release is currently limited to developers, with Apple continuing to roll out beta components as part of its testing cycle.
