French President Emmanuel Macron says he has held additional talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian focused on reopening shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. In statements reported on Wednesday, Macron says he reaffirmed the importance of freeing up maritime traffic in the waterway and discussed steps to improve safe transit.
Macron also says he encouraged Pezeshkian to examine plans proposed by France and Britain to establish an international mission aimed at laying the groundwork for secure passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Separate reporting also links Macron’s remarks to the continued disruption of shipping, with vessels reportedly stranded for about two months. The issue is occurring while a ceasefire described as fragile remains in place between the United States and Iran.
