The reports also say the missiles are launched from Iran and directed toward Azraq, a town about 100 km east of Amman that is associated with the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base.
The Independent and ABC News International both describe the air base area as one that has hosted U.S. forces. Middle East Eye adds that the air base has previously been used by U.S. and European air crews. It also reports that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says its missiles target a U.S. “command centre” in Azraq.
Jordan reiterates that it will not allow any violation of its airspace by any party, while also insisting it does not host foreign military bases. The accounts agree on Jordan’s reported interception of five incoming missiles and on the absence of reported casualties or damage.
