A Pulse Asia survey commissioned by Stratbase Institute finds broad public support for the Philippines to defend its sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) through alliances with other countries. The poll was conducted from May 3 to May 7, 2026, among 1,500 respondents. Results show that 86% of respondents agree that the Philippines should defend the WPS alongside partner nations, while 3% disagree. Another 11% are undecided. The survey asks respondents to consider cooperation with “like-minded” countries, citing the United States, Japan, Australia, Canada, and South Korea. Both reports emphasize the same overall figures and the same set of referenced partner countries. The survey results are presented as reflecting Filipino public sentiment about how the government should approach defense and sovereignty concerns in the WPS, particularly through coordinated efforts with allies rather than acting alone.
