Xbox executives say the industry’s ongoing RAM supply crisis is prompting Microsoft to rethink its next-generation console plans. In recent remarks, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma and Xbox strategy chief Matthew Ball indicate Microsoft is reevaluating Project Helix and exploring “radically different” console business models as the company adjusts to hardware constraints.

According to Polygon, Sharma links the need for change to the RAM crisis and argues the sector should consider new approaches to how players pay for games and consoles. She points to options such as payment plans, different partnership models, and potentially offering less powerful consoles. Sharma also emphasizes the possibility of shifting the scope of game production, including smaller games, as part of a broader strategy to fit expected performance and supply realities.

The Verge adds that both Sharma and Ball describe active efforts to reconsider the direction of Project Helix, while Microsoft looks for alternative ways to structure the console business beyond traditional hardware sales and expectations for specifications.
