BYD announces it will deploy thousands of ultra-fast “Flash Chargers” across Europe, aiming to install 3,000 stations by the end of 2027. The first chargers are already appearing in Germany and the UK, and the company says the rollout is intended to expand access to very high-speed charging as it continues to grow in the European auto market.
The planned stations are described as 1,500 kW chargers, significantly more powerful than Tesla’s 500 kW Supercharger V4 sites, according to reporting cited by outlets covering the announcement. BYD estimates the chargers will not unduly strain the electricity grid because vehicles can be charged from batteries that are topped up overnight.
Charging is set up for vehicles with standard CCS ports, allowing broader compatibility, though the highest charging speeds are tied to BYD vehicles equipped with its Blade Battery. One example mentioned is the Denza Z9 GT, which uses the Blade Battery and is described as reaching about 70% charge in roughly five minutes on the new chargers. Cost figures cited suggest each station could cost about €580,000, implying a total investment on the order of billions of dollars for the network.
