Four men are reported killed during an early-morning police operation near the Retirement Dump in St James, Montego Bay. The Jamaica Constabulary Force says the confrontation between the men and security forces occurs at about 5:40 a.m. on Wednesday. Police describe the operation as targeted and driven by intelligence connected to recent violence in the Retirement area, including the murder of a man at the dump on Friday, June 5.
Police add that the violence is linked to an ongoing conflict involving people operating in the scrap metal trade at the dump, where long-standing disputes over collection and sale of recyclable materials have escalated in recent weeks and contributed to retaliatory killings. Officers were deployed to disrupt criminal activity, prevent further loss of life, and restore public safety, and police say they came under attack during the operation, leading to the fatal shooting of four men.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) sends a team to the scene to investigate. Some reports state that a father and son are among the dead; they are identified as Brian “Teezy” Fairclough and Brian “Teejay” Fairclough Jr., along with two other men, one named “Tallis.” Authorities have not released additional details while investigations remain active.
