Russia restores access to the online gaming platform Roblox after authorities remove a block that began on December 3. Multiple reports say the decision follows complaints from children and parents, including tens of thousands of letters to Russian officials. One account cites roughly 63,000 children writing letters, with about half reportedly saying they wanted to leave the country. Another reports that tens of thousands of parents and children sent letters requesting the ban be lifted.

Russia’s digital ministry says the company has complied with local legal requirements. According to the ministry’s statement, Roblox implements steps described as a “comprehensive set” of measures, after which the government concludes the block is no longer justified. Interfax is cited in one report as saying the platform meets the requirements.

The ban affects a large user base: one source estimates Roblox had about 18 million monthly users, most of them children and teenagers. The South China Morning Post also cites Kaspersky Lab data indicating Roblox ranks among the most used mobile services for children in early 2025, tying third with TikTok in usage time.
