French streaming service Deezer launches a free online tool that scans user playlists on other platforms to identify potentially AI-generated music. The detector works by importing a user’s playlists from services such as Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, and YouTube Music, then checking the tracks for signs of synthetic or AI-produced material. Deezer says the tool currently supports playlists across 20 streaming platforms.

Deezer positions the launch as a transparency feature, noting that users may want to know whether the recommendations and tracks in their libraries include AI-generated songs even when they are using services beyond Deezer. The company also previously led labeling efforts for AI-generated content and has been developing synthetic-music detection technology that it can share or license more broadly across the music industry, according to some reports.

Several outlets include context about other AI-music transparency approaches. For example, Apple uses “Transparency Tags” to indicate when AI has been used, but those labels are optional. Coverage also mentions Deezer-reported figures about the scale of AI-delivered tracks on its platform and the prevalence of potentially fraudulent AI content in the wider ecosystem. Deezer’s detector requires users to grant permission to access their playlists for scanning.
