Former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson is arrested over a cyberlibel case and is released on bail, according to reports cited from a police report. The arrest occurs on Thursday afternoon at Singson’s residence in a gated village in Barangay Ugong Norte, Quezon City. The arrest is carried out based on a warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court of Vigan City, Branch 21, for an alleged violation of Section 4(c) in relation to Section 6 of Republic Act No. 10175, the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. The warrant is dated June 10, 2026. One report also notes that it did not immediately indicate whether he posted bail, while a later report states that he is released on bail after the arrest.

In a separate interview, Singson says he will not name the complainant in the case. He claims the complainant previously sought his help but then “turned against” him. He also alleges political harassment, and suggests that the matter is connected to remarks previously made by the Ombudsman, without providing additional details in the accounts cited.
