Multiple reports say iOS 27 includes a new recovery mode for iPhones that presents a different interface than the normal operating system and does not require loading the full main OS. The feature is described as Mac-like, with users able to access functions such as restoring software, entering a diagnostics mode, erasing the device, and running automated troubleshooting through a component referred to as a “Recovery Assistant.”
NDTV reports that the change was observed in the first iOS 27 developer beta (build 24A55355q) in a Reddit-discovered image or interface, showing options labeled for “Recovery Assistant,” “automatically” identifying software issues, and attempting fixes. The same report also describes a “Software Update recovery” option that may allow restoring the phone to the latest iOS version available via Software Update. It further notes a “Diagnostics Mode,” which is described as enabling tests by Apple Support to help identify hardware and software problems.
Both sources characterize the feature as focusing on recovery tasks and troubleshooting via a dedicated boot state.
