An 18-year-old British man from Dundee, Harry Whitton, dies while on holiday in Benidorm, Spain, his family says. Whitton was with his girlfriend when he fell ill while they were out for lunch. His father says preliminary post-mortem findings indicate his throat constricted, leading to breathing difficulties. The family also reports vomiting, which they say may have led to aspiration into his lungs during the breathing struggle.
The family believes the incident was linked to vape products. They say Whitton had recently bought vape oil in Benidorm and that it was the only recent difference between what he used and what his girlfriend used. They plan to have the vape oil tested for contained substances after they return to Scotland.
A GoFundMe page has been created to help repatriate his body. The Foreign Office says it is supporting the family and is in contact with local authorities. A Scottish football club where Whitton worked says he was a familiar and valued presence in their hospitality areas.
