The British Virgin Islands government says it plans to remove visa requirements for people who already hold work permits in the territory in the coming weeks. Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley announced the change during his 2026 State of the Territory Address, framing it as part of broader reforms intended to improve the investment climate and make it easier for businesses to hire.
Wheatley said the policy is meant to give “relief to businesses” that cannot onboard staff quickly enough to support operations. The announcement aligns with other steps the government has taken to improve labour and immigration-related processes, including digital improvements to work permit processing, expanded labour outreach, and increased workplace rights education. He also pointed to stronger partnerships with employers to improve efficiency and service delivery.
The government is also preparing to expand the workforce-related programme to additional sectors, including hospitality, agriculture and fisheries, marine industries, and skilled trades. The sources do not specify a precise implementation date for the visa removal, but indicate it will take place within the coming weeks.
