Google DeepMind has unveiled TacticAI, an AI system designed to forecast football actions before they unfold. Developed with Liverpool FC, the system uses geometric deep learning to analyze players’ movement patterns and the on-field dynamics. According to reports, it can predict how plays are likely to develop up to eight seconds in advance, using broadcast-style visual inputs.
TacticAI is also described as generating tactical recommendations. One source links the system to set-piece analysis, while both accounts emphasize that it can suggest adjustments based on the predicted sequence of play, supporting coaching or analytical use.
Palmeiras is reported as the first club to deploy TacticAI for live open-play analysis. The club uses the system to evaluate unfolding matches in near real time, applying the model’s forward-looking predictions to tactical decision-making.
