Ghana’s Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry says more than 1,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have been screened and supported to take advantage of opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Benjamin Asiam, Acting Head of the National Coordination Office at the ministry, says the initiative is aimed at preparing Ghanaian firms to benefit from the AfCFTA framework.

The ministry also urges Ghanaian businesses to position themselves to use the trade opportunities created by AfCFTA, which is described as giving access to a continental market of more than 1.4 billion people. Asiam’s remarks link the SME screening and support efforts to broader efforts to improve readiness for cross-border trade under the agreement.

While the reports focus on preparation and outreach, they collectively emphasize the same point: Ghanaian SMEs are being identified, supported, and encouraged to engage with AfCFTA to tap larger markets across Africa.
