A newborn leopard cub found in the Vyapari-Manivali area near Saralgaon in Murbad taluka is reunited with its mother after a 72-hour rescue and monitoring operation involving Thane’s Forest Department and the wildlife rescue group RAWW (Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare), as reported by multiple outlets. Local residents spotted the cub in dense vegetation on June 8 and said a pack of stray dogs attempted to attack it, prompting local youths to intervene and drive the dogs away before alerting forest officials.

The Forest Department took the cub into custody and moved it to the RAWW-Ashwamedh Transit Treatment Centre in Murbad for veterinary assessment and care. Officials also focused on the reunion process, consulting experts from the Manikdoh Leopard Rescue Centre in Junnar and using trap cameras, drones and thermal/night-vision monitoring. After the mother leopard initially visited the designated spot but left without taking the cub—apparently due to the surrounding presence of other animals and disturbances—the team continued tracking and veterinary care. On the third night, the mother returned, inspected the cub, and retrieved it.

Post-reunion monitoring continues to reduce the risk of human interference, with officials indicating precautions against disturbance from onlookers and social media activity.
