WonderHowTo releases two roundups of “truly last-minute” Halloween costume ideas aimed at people who are short on time, want to spend little money, and do not know how to sew. The articles frame Halloween costumes as something that can be put together in hours using simple, readily available items from places such as art stores, thrift stores, and discount or Halloween stores. One roundup highlights options made from basic materials—such as first-aid supplies for a gauze mummy look and household items like a cardboard box and duct tape for a vintage robot costume. It also suggests using inexpensive clothing or accessories, including thrifted vintage clothing for a classic ghost, an oversized white T-shirt for an easy sunny-side-up egg costume, and a burglar mask with mostly black clothing for a bank robber ensemble. The follow-up adds additional costume ideas that still rely on minimal effort and typically require no sewing skills. The articles encourage readers to share their own quick DIY costume ideas and focus on practical, low-cost ways to assemble costumes quickly.

8 years agoUnlike your more artistically-minded friends who've been working on their homemade, hand-stitched, conceptually-brilliant Halloween costumes since May, you need to put together a last-minute costume in a matter of hours. What can you possibly do if you're cheap, kind of lazy, and don't know how to sew to save your life? Invade your first-aid kit and roll yourself into a gauze mummy. Or, if you happen to have a big cardboard box and a roll of duct tape lying around, turn yourself into a vintage robot. Next to a thrift store? Buy yourself some vintage duds to dress as an old-timey ghost, or nab that XXL plain white T-shirt for a few bucks to make your ridiculously easy sunny-side-up egg costume. Have a lot of black in your wardrobe? Visit your nearest Halloween or dollar store and buy a burglar mask to complete your all-black bank robber ensemble.
