Signal is rolling out new features for Signal Groups, built on a previously previewed private group technology. The update focuses on expanding group administration and control while maintaining Signal’s privacy properties. Signal says the service does not have access to group membership lists, group titles, group avatars, or other group attributes. The company describes the new group experience as “richer,” including group administrators, granular permissions, and the ability to use @mentions. Signal also says these capabilities improve group scalability and support a more feature-complete future for group chats.

For users, Signal indicates they can try the new functionality by creating new groups, with the features planned to arrive on existing groups in a later update. Across the messaging, Signal positions the changes as enhancements to group messaging for everyday communication—such as coordinating with family and friends—and for organizing events or work-related discussions, while preserving the same underlying approach to private group handling.
