Police in West Bengal are investigating the killing of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s aide, Chandranath Rath, in an ambush near the Kolkata airport. According to multiple reports, Rath is shot dead by gunmen who intercept his SUV at close range. Eyewitness accounts cited by one outlet say shots are heard at around 10 p.m. Investigators say the attackers use vehicles with fake number plates as part of the plan, and they appear to travel by motorcycles. The assailants fire multiple shots, with reports describing several bullets and Glock-type pistols, though specific weapon details are still under investigation.
After the shooting, the occupants reportedly abandon the vehicle and escape on a motorcycle. In follow-up investigations, police detain a vehicle owner in Siliguri after linking a car registration number to the murder case. Authorities also seize a motorbike used in the getaway and report that it has a fake number plate and an erased chassis number, complicating efforts to identify the owner. Adhikari has characterized the killing as targeted and calls for severe punishment for those responsible.
