K.E.M. Hospital and Seth G.S. Medical College in Mumbai are investigating remarks made by MBBS student Sejal Pawar during an audience interaction at a Pranit More stand-up comedy show. The controversy draws on a video clip that circulates online, in which Pawar makes comments that many viewers describe as disrespectful toward donated cadavers used in medical education. KEM Dean Dr. Harish M. Pathak says the hospital learned of the episode through social media and calls the remarks “highly unacceptable,” citing the need to respect bodies donated for training.
According to KEM, a fact-finding committee reviews the full video recording and interacts with the student before submitting a report to the dean. The institute also clarifies that no suspension has been ordered so far and that disciplinary steps follow due process and the National Medical Commission guidelines, along with university and institutional rules. KEM states Pawar has submitted a written apology acknowledging that some statements were inappropriate.
Parents of the student are summoned for counselling, and a final disciplinary decision will follow once the inquiry report is submitted. Separately, KEM’s resident doctors’ association says Pawar is not a member, but it also characterizes the remarks as inappropriate. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Kishori Pednekar meets the dean with a request for a thorough inquiry.
