Congress leaders in Delhi stage protests after the Supreme Court dismisses Meenakshi Natarajan’s plea challenging the rejection of her Rajya Sabha nomination from Madhya Pradesh. The controversy began when the returning officer rejected her nomination papers, citing issues related to her election affidavit, including alleged non-disclosure of a pending case. Congress leaders argue there was no criminal case requiring disclosure under election laws and call the Election Commission’s stance unfair.

Ahead of the court’s scheduled hearing on June 12, leaders gathered in the national capital and held demonstrations near Rashtrapati Bhavan. Videos shared by outlets show party leaders travelling together and raising slogans. Reports also say Congress MLAs and workers attempted to march toward the President’s office, but Delhi Police stopped them and detained several leaders, including state party president Jitu Patwari.

Following the Supreme Court dismissal, Natarajan says she is studying the judgment and does not wish to comment in detail while the matter is sub judice. She frames the issue as a broader question for the party and the constitutional system, while Congress vows to continue its agitation and legal campaign.
