Borno State Government reintegrates a group of repentant insurgents and their family members after they complete deradicalisation, rehabilitation and reintegration activities under the state’s “Borno Model” non-kinetic peacebuilding initiative. Multiple outlets report that the latest release is Batch 9 and is classified as “low-risk” and “minor clients.” The beneficiaries include 720 men, 992 spouses and 2,050 children who voluntarily surrendered. The group is formally released at the Hajj Camp in Maiduguri during a ceremony, and sources say they swear an oath on the Holy Quran as part of the process.
Reporting on training and support, outlets describe religious education, counselling, hygiene and drug-awareness sessions, along with vocational training in trades such as tailoring, carpentry, metalwork, phone repairs and solar installation, plus other livelihood skills. Female participants reportedly receive additional training such as soap making, knitting and catering, with starter packs provided.
One outlet also cites the programme’s scale, saying more than 9,600 people have been reintegrated since the initiative began in July 2021 across multiple local government areas.
