A late-night fire on Thursday destroyed shops and office properties along Murtala Mohammed Way in Fagge Local Government Area, Kano State, according to multiple reports. The blaze occurred near the FCMB Bank branch and spread through adjacent commercial buildings. Reports say firefighters responded after receiving a distress call from a fire service personnel at about 10:54 p.m. and battled the flames alongside teams from the service headquarters and other metropolitan stations.
The affected area included buildings used for commercial activities, with some sources describing a one-storey structure and adjoining facilities. One outlet reports the fire started at a salvage yard known as Takumbo Market near a First City Monument Bank, then spread to nearby properties. The incident reportedly damaged large quantities of goods at the salvage yard and caused destruction to parts of nearby offices and shops, with some figures describing affected commercial spaces and building areas.
All accounts indicate the fire is linked to an electrical spark, based on preliminary investigations. The reports also state that no casualties were recorded. The Kano State Fire Service urges residents and business owners to improve electrical safety and promptly report fire incidents.
