A 45-year-old contractual sanitation worker is killed after an accident involving a bobcat machine during routine cleaning work at Juhu Beach in Mumbai, according to reports. The incident occurs around 10:30 a.m. on Friday while workers carry out beach-cleaning operations. The worker, identified in one report as Angamma Devendra, is employed by a private agency engaged by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for sanitation-related work.
BMC officials involved in disaster management and solid waste operations state that the worker was reportedly warned by the machine operator not to sit in the bucket. Despite the warning, she allegedly sat in the bucket of the bobcat. The reports say the machine hits a pothole, after which she loses her balance, falls from the bucket, and is run over by the vehicle.
She is rushed to Cooper Hospital, where doctors declare her brought dead. Authorities state that an investigation into the circumstances of the accident is underway, including reviewing how the worker came to be in the bucket and the conditions during the cleaning operation.
