Multiple outlets report that iOS 27 adds landscape orientation support to more of Apple’s built-in iPhone applications, extending functionality beyond apps that already supported landscape mode in earlier iOS versions. MacRumors says landscape support is enabled in a wide range of Apple apps, including Apple Music, Podcasts, Fitness, Health, Reminders, Home, Shortcuts, Apple Watch, Find My, Weather, Voice Memos, and Apple TV Remote, among others. Some apps appear to support only limited landscape behavior at first—for example, Apple Music and Podcasts are said to restrict landscape support to the audio player. Several apps use a left-aligned sidebar in landscape mode, while the Messages app reportedly allows collapsing its sidebar and continuing to show names and profile pictures. Other sources link these changes to potential preparations for a rumored foldable “iPhone Ultra,” noting that landscape-friendly apps could fit such a device’s layout needs. Separately, iOS 27 is also reported to add landscape support for Live Activities shown in the Dynamic Island. The changes are currently described as part of iOS 27 beta testing, with reports pointing to a September release alongside a possible “iPhone Ultra” unveiling.
