Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd), says the country’s security forces are not enemies of the state and that all Nigerians, including service personnel, are victims of ongoing insecurity. Speaking as a guest on the June 12, 2026 edition of Channels Television’s “The Platform” on Friday, Musa urged citizens to cooperate with the government, arguing that efforts to reduce insecurity succeed when the public works alongside relevant institutions.
Musa said he shared the perspective from personal experience while serving as commander in the theatre Operation Hadin Kai for 19 months. He described the hardship faced by security personnel and the broader impact on families of those killed or injured, including amputations caused by improvised explosive devices (IEDs). According to his remarks, the sacrifices made by security forces help preserve the existence of the country.
He called for Nigerians to honour and support service members by providing the backing needed to sustain their work, and he said that with citizen support, progress against insecurity is achievable.
