Pele’s winners’ medal from the 1958 World Cup is expected to sell for about £500,000 ($670,000) in an auction in England later this month, according to reporting that cites estimates from auctioneer BUDDS. The medal is listed as part of a catalogue of 450 World Cup-related items being sold by sporting memorabilia specialists BUDDS, which values the collection at roughly £2 million in total. The medal was won by the Brazilian forward as a teenager and is associated with Brazil’s 1958 tournament success, when Pele scored two of Brazil’s five goals in the final against host Sweden. The broader auction programme includes other notable football memorabilia, such as a shirt associated with Pele’s 1958 final and items connected to other World Cups, including memorabilia involving England goalkeeper Gordon Banks from 1970 and figures from England’s 1966 triumph. Separately, a Brazil shirt worn by Pele in the 1958 final is also expected to appear in a separate Sotheby’s sale in New York in late June, with dates overlapping the World Cup period. Pele died in December 2022 at age 82.
