An Indian-origin man is sentenced to 34 years in prison in the UK for kidnapping, torture and rape, according to court reports. The case centers on a 24-year-old woman who is told she must deliver a suitcase from Thailand back to the UK in June 2024. After she becomes suspicious and refuses, she is met at Birmingham Airport and taken away. The court hears that she is put into a car and driven to London by masked men. She is then held at a property in Hanwell in west London, where she is subjected to prolonged torture. The court also hears that the defendant rapes her on two occasions. Proceedings are reported as focusing on the woman’s account of how she was lured into involvement with the suitcase, her refusal, and the subsequent abduction and sustained abuse at the London address. The sentencing reflects the court’s assessment of the seriousness of the offences, including kidnapping, sustained physical and psychological abuse, and sexual violence.
