New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor is progressing in his recovery from a strained left calf and is nearing a possible return later in June. Lindor last played in a major league game on April 22, when he suffered the injury while running the bases against the Minnesota Twins. Multiple reports say he has begun baseball activity again, including simulated games at the major-league level, where he plays shortstop but does not run the bases. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Lindor played a two-inning simulated game Friday, facing a minor-league pitcher during the session. Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns indicated the organization’s expectation is that Lindor will play games “this month,” and other outlets report that the target window is the end of June. The Athletic reports Lindor is also slated for a Double-A rehab assignment, with his stint starting in Binghamton on Friday, marking his first game action since the injury. Overall, the Mets are using a step-by-step workload and rehab schedule as they work toward his return to the lineup.
