A clip from stand-up comedian Madhur Virli’s 2024 show “Love & Latex” has resurfaced online and triggered widespread backlash. The video, shared amid the ongoing “₹370 ki biryani” controversy involving Pranit More, shows Virli making remarks framed as “jokes” about rape cases. Multiple outlets report that social media users are condemning the remarks and the audience laughter in the recording, and some are calling for strict action.
In response to the growing criticism, Virli issues an apology on his YouTube channel, saying the clip being circulated comes from a performance from around two years ago. He says that soon after performing the bit, he realised it was wrong and took it down at that time, before it resurfaced recently. He acknowledges that jokes involving sensitive topics require “sensitivity,” “context,” and “informed discretion,” and says that when an attempt falls short, he will apologise and do better.
Several reports also state that his Instagram account was deactivated and that he has remained silent in public as the controversy spreads.
