Nigerian politician Peter Obi reiterates his criticism of Nnamdi Kanu’s detention while denying allegations that he protects the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader. Speaking in an interview aired on Nevon News with Rufai Oseni, Obi rejects claims from critics that he does not openly condemn wrongdoing by Kanu because of regional ties. Obi says he criticises wrong actions “whether in the East, North, or anywhere” and argues that criticism should be approached holistically.
Obi also renews his position that there is no basis to keep Kanu detained. Reports quoting him from Washington say he argues that no one should be arrested solely for expressing views, and that Kanu’s imprisonment over remarks and insults broadcast on Radio Biafra is unjust. He calls for dialogue as an alternative approach.
In additional comments reported by other outlets, Obi says that if he becomes president, he will work to secure Kanu’s release. He frames the issue as part of managing grievances peacefully and notes that no individual is perfect, while emphasizing the need to move forward using past experiences.
