Ahead of India Women’s opening match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 against Pakistan in Birmingham on Sunday, batter Jemimah Rodrigues says the pressure of the India–Pakistan rivalry is unlike other contests. She recalls that when she played her first India–Pakistan game, teammates spoke about the expectations from outside the team, and she describes similar pressure even from people around her, saying her building watchman urges her not to lose to Pakistan.

Rodrigues also stresses that despite the intensity of the rivalry, the Indian team focuses on a larger objective: winning a maiden Women’s T20 World Cup trophy. She describes a team approach that includes visualisation as part of preparation.

On preparation, Rodrigues says India trains by repeatedly placing players in difficult and pressurised scenarios to build the ability to perform under match stress. She adds that while India’s series against South Africa was not ideal, the team has taken lessons from it and applied them.

India head coach Amol Muzumdar is quoted emphasising that in T20 cricket any bowler can be a threat and the team should stay calm and deliver their roles. Multiple outlets report Rodrigues’ “lose to anyone, but not against Pakistan” message.
