Authorities seize gold worth about Rs 4 crore from a hidden compartment in the lavatory of an IndiGo aircraft after it arrives at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad. The seizure is made on Friday from IndiGo flight 6E-1478, which has flown in from Dubai. According to officials, the gold is concealed inside the lavatory’s speaker box, which is used as part of the aircraft’s speaker structure. Investigators believe an unknown person hides the consignment on board with the intention that it will be retrieved either by someone on the domestic leg of the journey or by a member of the ground crew after arrival. The seized gold is reported to be worth approximately Rs 4 crore (about Rs 4.26 crore in one account). Police and airport officials initiate further checks to identify how the gold entered the aircraft and determine who is responsible for the concealment. The matter is treated as a smuggling case and is under investigation.
