A woman identifying herself as Efi Baldwin, estranged wife of Ateneo de Manila University men’s basketball coach Tab Baldwin, says she repeatedly warned the university that minors “are not safe around him.” She claims she urged Ateneo officials to remove him from campus and says she appealed to the public and police to keep questioning why he remained around children despite her warnings. She also states that deaths involving Ateneo athletes could have been prevented.
Ateneo disputes key aspects of the claim. In a separate statement, the university says it has never received information from anyone about alleged risks tied to Baldwin mentoring student-athletes. Ateneo President Fr. Roberto Yap, SJ, also says no one was asked to stay silent about Efi Baldwin’s alleged advice, and he addresses the matter in remarks made during a press conference.
The accounts center on whether Ateneo was informed of safety concerns before Baldwin’s continued involvement with student-athletes.
