Tamil Nadu engineering admissions counselling for 2026 (TNEA) is likely to be postponed because of an upcoming NEET UG re-exam. Multiple reports state that the Higher Education Department is expected to take a final decision shortly after reviewing the timetable and potential schedule overlap with the re-exam. One report notes that the NEET re-exam is scheduled for June 21, which affects the engineering counselling calendar. The Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE) has been running parts of the process as a fully digital system, including online registration and fee payment. Applications run from May 3 to June 5, and while more than 3.02 lakh students have enrolled, a portion have uploaded required certificates. Certificate verification has begun, and officials indicate that the rank list is planned for publication on June 29 as per the existing schedule, pending administrative coordination. Another report adds that the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is yet to approve the counselling schedule. Higher Education Minister P. Viswanathan is reported to consult with the department secretary and announce any revised schedule within a day or two.
