Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, says only God can ultimately end the country’s insecurity. Speaking in interviews reported by multiple outlets, including with BBC Hausa, Matawalle describes insecurity as a national challenge that continues to intensify, citing ongoing killings and abductions and the displacement of people from their homes. He points to recent attacks in parts of Nigeria, including incidents reported in Oyo and Borno states involving the abduction of students and teachers. Matawalle calls for collective action, saying security efforts require cooperation between security agencies and ordinary Nigerians. He urges citizens to support the authorities and to pray for peace while security operatives work “round the clock” against terrorists and other criminal groups. He also cautions politicians against exploiting the security situation for political advantage, saying it should not be used to condemn others or score political points. According to the reports, he further argues that insecurity affects people regardless of political affiliation or religion, and he calls for Nigerians to rise above partisan interests and work together.
