Operatives of Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) intercept an alleged arms supply route and arrest a suspected courier in Kano State. Multiple reports say the suspect was apprehended on Friday in Gezawa Local Government Area, acting on credible intelligence. The courier is said to have been transporting weapons and ammunition intended for delivery to a notorious bandit leader operating in parts of Zamfara State. One outlet reports the consignment was moved from Maigatari in Jigawa State and was being taken toward Funtua in Katsina State for onward delivery to criminal elements.
The sources describe the items recovered during the interception, including three AK-47 rifles and rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) tubes and warheads, as well as two empty magazines. The reports also say preliminary investigations link the shipment to the suspected bandit kingpin and that the suspect has been questioned, with one source stating he confessed he was contracted and promised a payment for successful delivery.
The DSS says the arrest is part of efforts to disrupt the supply of arms and ammunition to criminal groups in the North-West. Investigations continue to identify other members of the network, and the suspect remains in DSS custody pending prosecution.
