Singapore’s Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) says two Singapore residents who were on board the cruise ship MV Hondius, which has been linked to a hantavirus outbreak, are being isolated at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) while they are tested. CDA initially reported that their test results are pending, with one person having a runny nose but otherwise well and the other being asymptomatic. CDA also says both residents were on the same flight as a confirmed hantavirus case who travelled from St Helena to Johannesburg on April 25. The confirmed case did not travel to Singapore and later died in South Africa.
In subsequent updates, CDA reports that the two residents have tested negative for hantavirus infection. Reporting also notes that while the two men are confirmed as having been on MV Hondius, the cruise ship operator is currently unable to confirm whether other Singaporeans were on board. Across sources, CDA reiterates that the risk to the general public in Singapore is currently low.
