Nigerian Army troops have dealt a significant blow to banditry in Zamfara State, killing one terrorist, destroying a criminal camp, and successfully rescuing three kidnapped victims during a coordinated operation. According to an operational update released by the Nigerian Army on Saturday, troops from Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma conducted the mission on June 12 across communities in Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas as part of intensified efforts to combat banditry and restore peace to the region. During a fighting patrol that covered Birnin Saba, Yanbuki, and Sabon Garin Daudawa, the soldiers engaged terrorists operating in the Yanbuki District of Zurmi LGA. In the ensuing firefight, one terrorist was neutralised while others fled the scene. The troops recovered several items from the location, including rifles, four magazines loaded with ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser, and an inner vest. Maintaining momentum, the troops advanced toward Sabon Garin Daudawa, prompting the fleeing terrorists to abandon their camp. Security forces subsequently cleared the area, destroyed the camp to prevent future use by criminals, and rescued three kidnapped victims during the operation. The hostages were safely evacuated. The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to sustaining aggressive operations across Zamfara and the North-West region until terrorist and bandit networks are fully dismantled and lasting peace is restored to affected communities. This latest success underscores ongoing military efforts to tackle insecurity in the North-West.
