Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has started plans to establish a new Police Mobile Force (PMF) base in Zuru, aiming to strengthen security across southern Kebbi and address banditry and other crimes. Reports describe a brief ceremony on Friday in which the governor handed over allocated land to a contractor for the project. The Emir of Zuru, Muhammad Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami Gomo III, presided over the symbolic handover, while the land was received on behalf of the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police by a divisional police officer.
The initiative is presented as part of a broader security intervention strategy and follows the governor’s promise to act during a recent visit to Zuru. The Emir supports the move, praising the state government’s provision of vehicles, logistics, and funding for security operations, and urging residents to cooperate to help restore peace.
All accounts link the new base to operational goals such as improving rapid response, enhancing intelligence gathering, and increasing security presence in vulnerable communities, particularly in areas affected by armed banditry, cattle rustling, and kidnapping near state borders.
