Tyra Banks files a defamation lawsuit against Netflix over its three-part docuseries “Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model,” which premiered Feb. 16. Banks, a former creator and longtime host of “America’s Next Top Model,” says her interview footage was manipulated or “reassembled” by Netflix to support a “false and defamatory narrative” about her conduct. She alleges the streaming company created an inaccurate portrayal that was not consistent with what she said during filming.

NBC News and other outlets report that the “Reality Check” series discusses both the show’s successes and controversies, including allegations raised by former participants, such as a contestant claiming sexual assault on camera and another undergoing cosmetic surgery to remain on the show. Banks’ complaint focuses on how her own statements were presented.

Variety and Deadline report that Banks’ lawsuit also names additional parties, including 89 Blocks Holdings, EverWonder Studio, Netflix Music, and co-directors Mor Loushy and Daniel Sivan, and includes claims beyond defamation, such as false light, breach of contract, and false endorsement. Netflix has not been described in these reports as having responded publicly to the allegations.
