Two MBBS students from Gajra Raja Medical College drown during a picnic at Tighra Dam in Gwalior district, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday. The students—four male and four female—go to the Kachchi Paar area of the dam, about 3 km from the boat club, after classes. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the group initially bathes in one area and then moves to another side, described as restricted and known for deep water and crocodiles in summer.

According to police and rescue accounts, Ayush Srivastava from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, and Gopal Agarwal from Bina, Sagar slip and fall into a deep section while walking near the water. Classmates notice they do not return and alert authorities. Tighra police, along with SDRF personnel and local divers, launch a night-long search using boats and high-powered lights.

Gopal Agarwal’s body is recovered late Saturday night. After a prolonged search, Ayush Srivastava’s body is later recovered on Sunday afternoon, around 2 pm, and sent for post-mortem. The families are informed, and Gopal’s body is handed over after post-mortem.
