Philippine city streets already show a growing presence of electric vehicles (EVs) from China, and multiple local automotive companies are now exploring additional brands for the market. Reports say some Philippine distributors are reaching out to Chinese brand owners to negotiate distributorship agreements that would allow new EV makers to enter or expand in the Philippines.
Among the Chinese brands already present in the country through distribution arrangements are BYD, Jetour, BAIC, GWM, Omoda/Jaecoo, Dong Feng, Foton, and Geely. In parallel, local firms are also reportedly seeking to bring in brands described as high-profile in the EV and technology space, including Xiaomi and Nio.
The accounts indicate that the interest is at the outreach and negotiation stage, with distributors writing to brand owners in China to express plans to forge agreements and market the vehicles locally. The reports do not specify which agreements will be signed or when new brands could start operations in the Philippines.
